As a Cloud Engineer (APS6) within the Strategic Projects Branch, you will be instrumental in managing and improving various systems and software while contributing to development tasks across multiple technologies.

Your work will involve system integration, creating new features, troubleshooting production issues, and ensuring systems are secure, reliable, and effective. Collaborating with internal business areas, external stakeholders, and technical teams, you'll help deliver critical systems for the 2026 Census in a fast-paced and innovative environment.

This role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact by supporting Australian communities through the delivery of important business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with project teams to transition new systems into operations.
  • Research and analyze trends, preparing project briefs to support informed decision-making.
  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and enhance business application solutions.
  • Ensure adherence to best practices for application technology stacks, architecture, and delivery processes.
  • Assist in developing strategies and roadmaps for system solutions.
  • Engage with stakeholders to understand business requirements.
  • Respond to production incidents and apply IT service management best practices.
  • Liaise with partners and vendors to resolve critical issues and inform design decisions.
  • Provide technical coaching and mentoring to team members.
  • Seek opportunities to enhance operational health in areas such as security, performance, and efficiency.
  • Actively participate in team ceremonies and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development of innovative solutions to meet business needs.
  • Enhance system performance and reporting capabilities.
  • Ensure system implementation and architecture are reliable and secure.
  • Maintain compliance with current security requirements.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Strong software engineering and/or enterprise application integration skills, supported by relevant ICT qualifications.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement abilities.
  • Capability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Proficiency in analyzing requirements and delivering robust, scalable solutions.
  • Commitment to developing quality code with attention to detail.
  • Problem-solving skills for complex business and system-related challenges.
