A dynamic organisation is seeking a Data Engineer to join their team and help improve the performance of a critical database used for airspace risk assessment. This tool processes over 8 billion data points and is growing rapidly, providing a challenging and exciting opportunity for a data professional.
Key Responsibilities:
Data Modelling & Design:
- Develop, test, and implement conceptual, logical, and physical data models based on business requirements.
- Design solutions for efficient storage, retrieval, and analysis of geospatial data.
- Document solutions to ensure they meet project requirements and facilitate ongoing database management.
Working with Microsoft Azure:
- Review and optimise data storage solutions within Microsoft Azure to meet business needs.
- Modify ETL processes in Azure to increase efficiency and ensure accurate data management.
Accessing Databases:
- Assist team members in accessing database tables and raw files from internal systems.
- Advise on the best practices for managing and accessing geospatial data.
Data Analysis:
- Conduct geospatial data analysis as required, applying algorithms developed within the team.
Data Governance & Quality:
- Ensure data models align with data governance standards and guidelines.
- Perform data validation, cleansing, and implement data quality measures.
Continuous Improvement:
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in geospatial data analytics.
- Identify opportunities for process optimization and improvements.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field (Master's degree is a plus).
- Proven experience as a Data Modeler/Data Engineer, with a successful track record in data modelling and implementation.
- Expertise in Microsoft Azure for data management and ETL processes.
- In-depth knowledge of databases and data types, with experience managing geospatial data (GIS experience highly regarded).
- Proficiency in SQL, with additional experience in PostgreSQL or Python for geospatial analysis considered a plus.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Familiarity with data governance and data quality best practices.
- Ability to produce clear, detailed technical documentation.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with geospatial data analysis and geospatial data modelling techniques.
- Familiarity with industry standards for data governance, security, and compliance.
