NDIA - Data Science Director
Experis are proud to be partnering with out federal government client who are looking to recruit a data science director on a contract basis.
This is a crucial leadership position that involves delegated authority and responsibility for resolving issues and risks across a broad range of complex activities. The Director will provide strategic leadership, planning, resource management, and performance oversight for the team, including managing assigned contractors within the work area. The role demands a significant understanding of advanced data science, analytics functions, and consulting capabilities to deliver high-level advice to senior management, the Executive Leadership Team, and various stakeholders.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Leadership and Management: Overseeing the team, providing direction, mentorship, and performance management to ensure the team meets its strategic and operational objectives.
- Strategic Influence and Policy Development: Playing a key role in the development and implementation of strategy, policies, and practices, aligning with objectives to deliver data-driven insights for operational excellence.
- Advanced Analytics and Model Development: Leading the development, review, and implementation of predictive models and advanced analytics solutions that drive improved decision[1]making and operational outcomes.
- Consultative Expertise: Acting as a principal consultant within the government context, providing expert advice and innovative solutions to complex analytical challenges, while ensuring alignment with legislative and policy frameworks.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Building and nurturing relationships with internal and external stakeholders to foster collaboration, influence key initiatives, and support project success.
- Project Management: Coordinating and managing high-profile and sensitive projects, ensuring timely delivery of project outcomes with strategic or operational significance.
- Data Management and Reporting: Ensuring the integrity and quality of data through rigorous data management practices, including data extraction, cleaning, linkage, and quality analysis. Deliver comprehensive reports and actionable insights that support corporate priorities.
- Innovative Problem Solving: Applying a high level of judgement and decision-making to develop innovative solutions for analytical challenges, continuously improving the way data science supports policy and operational activities.
This role provides a significant degree of independence and requires the ability to handle highly complex or sensitive projects with strategic importance. Requirements:
Essential criteria | |
1. * Leadership and Management Experience: Minimum of 7 years of experience in leading and managing analytics or data science teams, including resource management, performance evaluation, and mentorship. | |
2. * Advanced Data Science Expertise: Proven expertise in advanced analytics techniques, predictive modelling, and data science methodologies, with a strong ability to apply these skills to drive strategic and operational improvements. | |
3. * Stakeholder Engagement: Extensive experience in building and managing strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including the ability to influence and collaborate effectively to support project success. | |
4. * Project Management: Proven ability to coordinate and manage high-profile and sensitive projects, ensuring timely and successful delivery of project outcomes with strategic or operational significance. | |
5. * Exceptional Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively to diverse audiences, including senior management and stakeholders. | |
6. * Data Management and Reporting: Proficiency in data management practices, including data extraction, cleaning, linkage, quality analysis, and reporting, with a focus on generating actionable insights to support organisational priorities. | |
