Senior Infrastructure Engineer
Location: Canberra, ACT (Onsite - 5 days per week)
Contract: 6 months (12th May 2025 - 12th November 2025)
Security Clearance: Baseline Clearance Required

About the Role

Experis Australia has been engaged by a Federal Government agency in Canberra to identify a Senior Data Centre Engineer for a 6-month contract starting 12th May 2025. This role is critical in overseeing the operation of two departmental Data Centres, ensuring their stability, security, and efficiency. The primary focus will be on managing the replacement of aging UPS and AC systems in the primary Data Centre location.

Key Responsibilities

• Data Centre Operations: Manage daily operations of the primary Data Centre, including UPS and AC monitoring.

• Infrastructure Management: Handle rack management, cabling, and space optimization to maintain operational efficiency.

• Vendor Coordination: Work with external vendors for maintenance, system upgrades, and compliance adherence.

• System Monitoring: Utilize tools such as vROPs and EcoStruxure DCO/DCE to track system performance and utilization.

• Security & Compliance: Enforce security best practices and frameworks to ensure maximum uptime.

• Technical Support for Upgrades: Serve as a key technical resource in supporting the upcoming Data Centre infrastructure upgrade, with project management and installation handled by third-party vendors.

Essential Criteria

1. Data Centre Operations Expertise:

   • Experience in rack management and cabling.

   • Ability to coordinate with vendors for maintenance, upgrades, and compliance.

   • Strong monitoring and performance assessment skills using tools like vROPs and EcoStruxure DCE/DCO.

   • Enforce security frameworks to maintain high system uptime.

2. Experience in Data Centre Upgrades (AC & UPS):

   • Strong understanding of market offerings related to Data Centre AC and UPS systems.

   • Ability to conduct technical research and analysis to provide informed insights on system choices.

   • Knowledge of pros and cons of different technologies in the Data Centre space.

3. Technical Documentation:

   • Ability to produce design, build, and operational documentation for processes and procedures.

4. Strong Communication & Stakeholder Engagement:

   • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

   • Ability to present technical information to stakeholders.

   • Experience in coaching and mentoring staff.

Desirable Criteria

• Government Security Frameworks:

  • Working knowledge of government security frameworks up to Protected level.

  • Familiarity with Essential 8 and PSPF (Protective Security Policy Framework) requirements.
