About the Role The Data Engineering team is part of the Research, Analytics, and Data Branch within the Digital Solutions Division. Reporting to the Assistant Director, the Data Engineer will be responsible for managing the collection, storage, and availability of data to support data analysts in delivering high-quality insights.

This role requires technical expertise, stakeholder engagement, and collaboration to ensure the effective and timely delivery of data solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Gather and develop requirements in collaboration with stakeholders to support data analytics and reporting.

  • Design and develop Power BI solutions in an Azure environment, utilising Data Bricks where applicable.

  • Develop and optimise data models and queries to enhance performance and scalability of Power BI dashboards and reports.

  • Implement data cleansing, transformation, and enrichment processes to maintain accuracy and integrity.

  • Create visually compelling dashboards and reports that provide actionable insights into data trends and key metrics.

  • Perform thorough testing and validation to ensure data reliability and usability.

  • Provide technical guidance, support, and training to team members.

  • Adhere to security requirements for handling sensitive data in a government sector environment.

Leadership and Accountability

  • Provide expertise and technical knowledge across a range of programs and activities.

  • Offer accurate and specialised advice, anticipate challenges, and contribute to issue resolution.

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of risk management and assessment activities.

  • Ensure quality outputs and conduct regular quality assurance of processes.

  • Assist in strategic planning, program and project management, and policy development.

  • Supervise and mentor team members, providing performance feedback and career development support.

Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in data engineering, including data collection, storage, and analytics.

  • Proficiency in Power BI, Azure, and Data Bricks.

  • Strong understanding of data modelling, transformation, and visualisation techniques.

  • Experience in implementing security measures for sensitive data.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.

  • Ability to manage stakeholder relationships and work collaboratively to achieve business objectives.
