About the Role
Experis is partnering with our Canberra-based client to source a Senior Email Engineer for an exciting 12-month contract, with 2 possible extensions. This role will support a major Digital Uplift Program (DUP) focused on modernising secure communication platforms and enhancing cloud-based infrastructure.

As a Senior Email Engineer, you'll lead the design and implementation of a secure, modern email environment using Microsoft Exchange Online and Fortra Secure Email Gateways. You'll drive technical delivery, ensure alignment with enterprise and security frameworks, and provide clear and comprehensive documentation across the lifecycle of each work package.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and deployment of modern email services using Microsoft Exchange Online.

• Implement Fortra (formerly Clearswift) Secure Email Gateway solutions.

• Develop and gain approval for system design documentation.

• Ensure compliance with enterprise security and architecture frameworks.

• Work closely with technical SMEs to execute and test implementations.

• Drive protective markings and policy-based handling across the email environment.

Technical Focus Areas

• Microsoft Purview, Defender for Office 365, and broader M365 security/compliance tools.

• Cloud security architecture and Zero Trust principles.

Essential Criteria

• Strong expertise in Microsoft Exchange Online (including hybrid setups & EOP).

• Hands-on experience with Fortra Secure Email Gateways.

• Skilled in secure email infrastructure design, implementation, and troubleshooting.

• Experience applying protective markings and compliance rules.

• Proven ability to develop high-quality technical documentation.

• Confident presenting to architecture boards and senior stakeholders.

Desirable Criteria

• Knowledge of email encryption, DLP, and compliance tools.

• Experience with SMTP, SPF, DKIM, DMARC, and email diagnostics.

• Excellent communication skills across technical and business teams.

• Relevant tertiary qualifications and Microsoft certifications highly regarded.
