About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior OpenShift Administrator to support a major federal government agency. This exciting role involves the monitoring, installation, configuration, administration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of on-premises Red Hat OpenShift clusters within a highly secure and complex environment.
You will play a key role in providing technical leadership, mentoring junior team members, and ensuring stable and efficient OpenShift operations. Your work will directly contribute to building secure, scalable, and high-performing digital platforms that service millions of Australians.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, deploy, manage, and troubleshoot OpenShift or Kubernetes clusters in enterprise environments.
Assist development teams with the automation of deployment, scaling, and management of containerised applications via OpenShift, GitOps platforms, and CI/CD pipelines.
Oversee cluster management, resource allocation, configuration management, and capacity planning within OpenShift environments.
Develop Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using Ansible, Terraform, or Helm.
Implement security best practices, including vulnerability scanning, network segmentation, and role-based access control.
Lead technical projects, mentor junior engineers, and ensure timely delivery of key milestones.
Collaborate closely with developers, architects, and stakeholders to ensure alignment with business objectives.
Maintain clear, comprehensive system documentation and promote knowledge sharing.
Occasional after-hours support may be required for maintenance activities (not a default expectation).
Essential Skills and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Software Engineering, or a related field highly desirable; OR
At least 5+ years of continuous professional ICT experience, including 3+ years in large-scale Kubernetes environments.
At least 5+ years of system administration experience, particularly OpenShift/Kubernetes cluster administration.
Deep expertise in Kubernetes administration, covering networking, security, storage, and troubleshooting within containerised environments.
Experience in government or highly regulated environments, with strong adherence to compliance frameworks (e.g., ISM, Essential 8).
Mandatory Certification: Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Administration (or a willingness to obtain within 3-6 months).
Highly Desirable Skills and Certifications:
Certifications in Cloud Platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) or Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), or willingness to obtain within 3-6 months.
